Add your own background images to Google Meet
Upload your own image to Google Meet's background picker so you can use it in a Pick Background rule.
Pick Background doesn't store images. It clicks the backgrounds that are already in Google Meet's own picker. So to use your own image, such as a client's logo or a photo of your office, add it to Google Meet first. Then it shows up when you pick a background for a rule.
Upload an image to Google Meet
- Open any Google Meet link so you're on the preview screen.
- Under your video preview, click Backgrounds and effects. On a Google Workspace account, a small menu opens first. Choose Choose backgrounds and effects.
- In the backgrounds section, click the tile with the plus sign (Add your own personal background) and choose an image from your computer.
- Close the panel. The image stays in your picker for future meetings.
Google's full instructions are in Change backgrounds & effects in Google Meet.
Use it in a rule
On the Pick Background badge, click Create a rule, then Pick a background from Google Meet, and click your uploaded image in the panel. See Set up your first rule for the full walkthrough.
Tips for good backgrounds
- Use a landscape image, such as 1920 by 1080 pixels, so it fills the frame.
- Keep logos and text away from the center. You'll be sitting in front of them.
- If you remove an uploaded image from Google Meet, any rule that uses it can't find it anymore. Upload it again and recreate the rule.
- On some work or school accounts, an administrator controls which backgrounds are available. If you don't see an option to add your own, check with your IT team.
Uploaded images live in your Google Meet account, not with Pick Background. They never leave Google.
